Tuesday Mornings

So I want update you guys on the deal for this blog. Pink laces out will be my place to vent about the weekend games & happenings. I may pick a topic, team or player to cry about, poke fun of or highlight. I'll just let the blog become whatever it's going to be. Nothing set in stone except that it will be football related.
I'm not a "sports expert" nor do I claim to be. I'm just a chick that sits in my living every Sunday w/my family & absorbs every ounce of NFL action I possibly can from sunup until sundown. I get up early every Sunday & I put on big pots of gravy & meatballs or massive amounts of chili, letting them simmer all day long until just right. We drink beers & scream loudly at the television from 10am to 10pm MT. Usually my hands hurt from clapping so much or my head hurts from being totally aggravated. And I love every minute of it!
I don't even get to go to games anymore because we now live in the middle of No Man's Land, Arizona (not a real place, though it could be). The nearest pro stadium is 4 hours away. Hopefully, I won't be here forever, we'll move back to a quasi-civilization & I can do some tailgating once again. Pray for me..... please!

I've been a life long NY Jets fan since a far back as I can remember, my pain & suffering is deep yet has only made me stronger. Being a New Yorker by birth it only makes sense that I chose a home team, right? I never understood people that are fans of teams where they have NEVER lived, but to each his own, I guess...although I will point out that 9 times out of 10, these fans are usually rooting for Dallas, the Dolphins, the Giants or New England (in recent years). If these teams don't do well, these same fans disappear. If they are doing well, their fan numbers seem to grow. The dreaded bandwagoner! Yack...they must really annoy the real true die hards of these teams. I know I wouldn't like them around much, only showing up for the post season with their shiny new jerseys & lack of team player knowledge, usually only knowing the name of the QB, 2 WR's, a tackle & the coach. If you encounter a bandwagoner, pop quiz them, it's fun! Especially, if it's in public....

In my experience, I've found there are 3 kinds of people in the NYC/New Jersey metro area: Giants fans, Jets fans & the really strange ones that fit into one of two categories: They don't like football! WHAT! Whatever, go away now... Or  they "say" they like both teams. Huh?
I can't get my head around this one. A Jets/Giants match-up has caused some outrageous fights were I come from & I can't imagine saying "Oh, either team can win, it's fine!" Lmao! NO....Pick one!
I don't care about the fact that we're always the underdog, you see I like the underdog. You can rib me all you want about your *insert team here* being so great, it doesn't matter. I'm used to it, it rolls right off me & I'll just crack another beer open & root for my team some more. When victory comes (& it better in my lifetime), it will be all the more sweeter. I didn't jump on a bandwagon, I didn't follow players around. I didn't like a team because that's who everyone else liked. I stuck with my hometown team, no what, no matter where I lived. Why the Jets over the Giants, you ask? Again, it's the underdog thing.
Having spent many Sundays at a Jets game, I can personally tell you that NY fans are some of the greatest, most loyal fans in the country. I'm sure everyone thinks that about their fans but there is something about NY & it's Jets fans that is different from others. Tough, loyal, unwavering in their voice. And right there-- next year, once again... cheering on their team. Nothing compares to Sunday afternoons, tailgating in the parking lot of Giants Stadium & to the roar of the fans inside!

I'll most likely update this blog each Tuesday morning during the season after all the pro action is over for the week & some of it won't be pretty. I'm hoping you'll stop by for a read, maybe a laugh or two. I'd love to read your comments as well, so please drop in for some coffee on Tuesday mornings. Hopefully, we all won't be hungover!
I'm not going to get all technical & run a whole bunch of stats & official numbers by you, since that information in readily available, ad nauseam, on about 1 million websites. What I am going to do, is complain about bad coaching calls, bad officiating (most definitely), wonder out loud why ESPN is so in love with only certain teams & players, how come this guy couldn't make that catch or why he didn't get a limo to drive him home after he had a 12 pack & got arrested.
I can guarantee you that by, let's say, week 4, I will have had enough of Brett Favre, Michael Vick & the Dallas Cowboys "unnamed" stadium woes! I'm sure that Tom Brady will be on my most hated list, & Al Davis will still think he's alive.
I know that I'll be loudly complaining about the addition of Cris Collingsworth to SNF & raving about the brilliant hiring of Jon Gruden on MNF & wishing that it was the other way around: that Gruden took Madden's place. How NO ONE saw the potential perfection of a Michaels/Gruden blending, I'll never know. I'll continue to scratch my head over that one. Replace the coach with a coach, you dumbos! Not changing my mind on this one, even come the end of the season. I saw a documentary on Gruden once & I've been a Chucky fan, through & through since...He's too intense & passionate about football not to like him. Plus his analysis is in coach-ese, a really cool language to decipher.

I have some other teams that I "have to" root for now as well, by way of marriage & childbirth. I have had to be nice & adopt the Washington Redskins & Tennessee Titans as well.  While the Redskins have some issues this season, I think the Titans can be a contender this year. I respect Jeff Fisher immensely & think he is a great coach. I wish him well this season. Hey...I now look at it as better odds at seeing SOME team in the Superbowl that will make someone in my family happy!
Which is all that really matters & leads me to a favorite quote:

Football is happiness...the rest, just details.
